March 17, 2010 by Boss Hawg · 2 Comments

KTM Announces Zero Emission Custom Motorcycle Prototype “FREERIDE” so pay attention because KTM will unveil its race-ready Sport Enduro Zero Emission Motorbike with an BEM Battery Electric Motor on March 26, 2010.  The KTM “FREERIDE” models will be displayed right along side with the likes of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson, BMW, MV Augusta, Bimota, Ducati, Triumph, Aprilia, and Moto Guzzi at the 2010 Tokyo Motorcycle Show.

“As an innovative and market leading company, KTM must also take up the task of testing out and developing new engine formats for our sports motorcycles. The concept of the zero emission motorcycle combines the well known KTM competence with new and highly interesting motor technology. With an emission free motorcycle we see a big opportunity to make Enduro sport available to a broader and completely new target group in the medium and long term by giving them access to a completely new sporting trend. The KTM Zero Emission Motorcycle will allow for riding in more areas, even densely populated areas, without coming into conflict with existing restrictions. Testing with the first prototype already reveals the big potential of this cooperative development project with arsenal research.” DI Harald Plöckinger, KTM Power Sports AG

With “Freeride” KTM will introduce to the world two new series prototypes at the 2010 Tokyo Motorcycle Show.  They will unveil their Ready To Race Battery Electric Motor (BEM) motorcycles and within the year will have these leading-edge motorcycles riding away into the 21st century.  As the world’s leading producer of off road motorcycles, KTM and its motorcycles engineering team clearly illustrate that you can have fun while riding and have environmental sustainability combined all on one motorcycle with the latest development of their zero emission motorcycle.

This light, sporty and powerful zero emission motorcycle complies with the KTM sport-oriented, racing philosophy while ensuring a zero emission and practically noise free bike with its Battery Electric Motor (BEM).  Development of the highly integrated Battery Electric Motor (BEM) was made possible through the expertise of KTM’s consulting research engineers at Arsenal.  The bike was built due to the facts that KTM is the innovative leader in the off-road motorcycle industry all the while finding solutions that align the core business of KTM to important world-wide situations regarding topics such as the environment, energy consumption, and mobility.

The KTM zero emission motorcycle embodies the typical KTM “Ready to Race” philosophy and features the most modern construction characteristics throughout the motorcycle with the highest quality components which have been a standard on KTM motorcycles since the beginning.  With its first zero emission motorcycle, the world’s leading producer of off road motorcycles has developed an electrically driven sports motorcycle that proves that riding fun and environmental sustainability need not be in conflict with one another.  Be sure to see both models at the 2010 Tokyo Motorcycle Show (yes there is an English version).  KTM, founded in 1953, is the second largest European motorcycle manufacturer specializing in “Ready to Race” on and off road motorcycles and ATVs.  Proven successes in worldwide competition are embodied into the design and function of each KTM race machine. KTM has built a reputation for high-quality premium race ready machines suitable for on and off road race competition and recreation.  With more than 150 World Championships and counting, the technology, design and performance of KTM continues to race past the competition time and again.
